Junior Shamrocks pushed to brink in Minto Cup final

The Orangeville Northmen of Ontario scored four third-period goals to edge the Victoria Junior Shamrocks 6-5 in the second game of the best-of-five Minto Cup national Junior A lacrosse championship final Thursday night at the Langley Events Centre.

The Northmen, who won the first game 10-8 and lead the series 2-0, and can wrap up the national crown with a win Friday night over the Junior Shamrocks.

The Ontario-champion Northmen and B.C. second-seed Shamrocks advanced to the final from the round-robin portion of the Minto Cup tournament, which included the B.C. champion Coquitlam Junior Adanacs and Alberta-champion Okotoks Raiders.

The Junior Shamrocks are appearing in their first Minto Cup since 2008 and are looking for Victoria’s first championship since 1988 and fourth overall.
