The Victoria Highlanders scored early and often in a 6-0 United Soccer League 2 victory over Portland Timbers U-23 on Sunday afternoon at Centennial Stadium.

Daniel Davidson got the scoring parade rolling at 10 minutes before scoring his second goal at 35 minutes. Goals just before the half by Goteh Ntignee and Shun Takano put it away at 4-0 for the hosts. Ntignee made it 5-0 at 57 minutes and Elyad Shojaei closed it out at 70 minutes.

Simon Norgrove recorded the clean sheet as the Highlanders moved to 4-1-1 and the Timbers fell to 1-6-2.

“We had a good training week and we were prepared for it,” said Highlanders head coach Thomas Niendorf.

“We had some great performances from the boys, and they came together as a team. It was a good win at home, and we played the way we knew we could.”

The Highlanders are back in action Friday and Sunday at Centennial Stadium for a weekend double header against defending USL 2 champion Calgary Foothills.
