HarbourCats fall to AppleSox for second time

The Wenatchee AppleSox scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to down the Victoria HarbourCats 5-2 in West Coast League baseball action Saturday in Washington state. The AppleSox were powered by UCLA Bruins slugger JT Schwart’s homer.

The AppleSox were powered by UCLA Bruins slugger JT Schwart’s homer. Caleb Ricketts and Michael Malinchak had two hits each for Victoria.

Wenatchee has won the first two games of the three-game set, which concludes today.

The AppleSox moved to within 1.5 games of North Division second-half co-leaders Yakima Valley Pippins and Bellingham Bells while Victoria is three games behind. Kelowna is 2.5 games behind and also has a shot at the second-half title, and playoff berth that goes with it.

The HarbourCats return to Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park to conclude the regular-season with a three-game set beginning Monday against the Portland Pickles from the South Division. — Times Colonist
