Victoria Grizzlies edge Cowichan Valley Capitals in overtime

Matthew Wood scored a hat trick as the Victoria Grizzlies won their third consecutive B.C. Hockey League game with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Cowichan Valley Capitals in Duncan.

Victoria rookie forward Matthew Wood, projected for the 2023 NHL draft, scored a hat trick on a four-point night as the Victoria Grizzlies (17-14) won their third consecutive B.C. Hockey League game with a 4-3 overtime victory in Duncan over the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Wood notched the winner at 1:15 in extra time on Saturday night for this 28th goal on the season. Michael Adamek scored the other Grizzlies goal as captain Ellis Rickwood added three assists.

Kevin-Thomas Walters scored a goal for the hosts to be named game second star as the Coastal Conference-trailing Capitals fell to 8-24-1.

Kyle Kelsey made 26 saves in goal for the Grizzlies and McCoy Bidwell 30 saves for Cowichan Valley.

The Grizzlies meet the Clippers (19-11) this afternoon in Nanaimo.
