Double hoops win for UVic women in Kamloops

The University of Victoria Vikes women’s basketball team swept Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops over the weekend, while the Vikes men split with their WolfPack rivals in Canada West action.

The University of Victoria Vikes women’s basketball team swept Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops over the weekend, while the Vikes men split with their WolfPack rivals in Canada West action.

The UVic women moved to 5-1 in conference by defeating the winless WolfPack 81-62 to follow-up Friday’s 78-59 victory. Katie Langdon and Aleah Ashlee had 16 points each on Saturday for UVic while Calli McMillan and Amira Giannattasio each chipped in 12 points. McMillan put through a career-high 21 points Friday while Giannattasio scored 16, Ashlyn Day 13 and Ashlee 10.

The WolfPack men (2-2) defeated UVic 80-70 on Saturday night following UVic’s 73-65 victory on Friday. Mason Loewen had 26 points and Jordan Charles 21 on Saturday. Charles had 20 points, Taylor Montgomery-Stinson 19, Loewen 15 and point-guard Scott Kellum nine on Friday.

The Vikes men are 2-4 in Canada West and it doesn’t get any easier for them this week when they face the defending U Sport national champion Dinos in Calgary on Friday and Saturday.

The Vikes teams each play seven of their first eight game away from home as the women’s UVic cagers also hit the road once again for their Canada West set in Calgary against the Dinos.
