The Little Flower Academy Angels of Vancouver defeated the Carihi Tyees of Campbell River on Saturday in the final of the B.C. girls’ Triple-A high school volleyball championships at the Langley Events Centre.

Coach Jacquie Chase’s Tyees, who beat the Dawson Creek Penguins in the semifinals, were also runners-up last season. This year’s Carhi roster features just three players who were part of that 2018 squad. This year’s team is predominantly Grade 11 with two Grade 12s and one Grade 10.

Meanwhile, third-seed Claremont’s hopes of a B.C. high school Triple-A boys’ volleyball title were dashed by a semifinal loss to the second-ranked Kelowna Owls on Saturday in the provincial tournament at the LEC.

The Owls and defending-champion and top seed Earl Marriott Mariners of Surrey were meeting for the provincial crown at press time. Coach Shon Ryan’s Spartans were playing Okanagan-Mission in the bronze-medal game.

FOOTBALL: In the junior high school B.C. football finals, Mount Douglas beat Lord Tweedsmuir of Surrey 41-21 in Triple A at B.C. Place while Windsor of North Vancouver topped the Ballenas Whalers of Parksville 25-14.

In the provincial high school football championship games at B.C. Place, Vernon was playing Langley in the Double-A final and Lord Tweedsmuir was playing Vancouver College in the Triple-A final.
