The Alberni Valley Bulldogs played the role of streak-breakers Wednesday night at Weyerhaeuser Arena in Port Alberni.

The Bulldog’s 5-3 B.C. Hockey League victory over the visiting Victoria Grizzlies (11-7) snapped the Grizzlies’ three-game winning run while halting the Bulldogs’ own three-game losing skid.

The Bulldogs (9-6-2), always tough at home, moved to 6-1-1 at Weyerhaeuser Arena.

Third-period goals by Alberni Valley’s Finn Brown at 6:52 and Booker Daniel at 12:45 broke open a 3-3 game. Stephen Castanga, Nicholas Beneteau and Mirko Buttazzoni, the latter on a two-point night, also counted for the Bulldogs.

Captain Ellis Rickwood and assistant-captain Andrew Amousse had a goal and assist each for Victoria on two-point nights. Michael Hoekstra scored the other Grizzlies goal. Clark Hiebert added two assists.

Cole Schwebius was busy in goal for Victoria with 39 saves. Hobie Hedquist made 19 saves in the Alberni Valley crease for the victory.

The Grizzlies went 1-0 in the odd man while the Bulldogs did not have a power play.

Buttazzoni was named the game’s first star, Brown second star and Hiebert the third star.

The clubs meet again Friday night at The Q Centre in Colwood.

LOOSE PUCKS: The Grizzlies were without top forwards Connor Eddy (injury) and Matthew Wood (Canadian U-17 tournament).
