Cole Broadhurst grabs winner for Cowichan Valley over Victoria Grizzlies

Cole Broadhurst’s goal with three minutes and 12 seconds remaining in the third period gave the Cowichan Valley Capitals a 3-2 victory over the Victoria Grizzlies in B.C. Hockey League action Saturday night in Duncan.

Luc Wilson and Cruze Cote of the Caps and Andrew Amousse and Brady MacDonald of the Grizzlies traded goals over the first two periods. Victoria was chasing the game all night with Cowichan Valley taking 1-0 and 2-1 leads. Both goaltenders were standouts, with NCAA Penn State Nittany Lions-bound Liam Souliere making 43 saves for Victoria and Zach Borgiel 44 for Cowichan Valley.

Broadhurst was named game first star, Souliere second star and Borgiel third star.

The Grizzlies (23-31-1) are 7-2-1 in their past 10 games. The Island Division-leading Capitals improved to 35-15-7.

The Grizzlies have three regular-season games remaining — three consecutive against the Powell River Kings, beginning this afternoon at The Q Centre and finishing with games Friday and next Saturday in Powell River.
