Wimbledon junior champion Eugenie Bouchard is through to the second round of the women's Rogers Cup.

Wimbledon junior champion Eugenie Bouchard is through to the second round of the women's Rogers Cup.

The 18-year-old downed the struggling Shahar Peer of Israel 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 before an enthusiastic home town crowd at Uniprix Stadium on Wednesday to reach the second round of the $2.168-million hardcourt event.

She advanced to a meeting with 2010 French Open champion Na Li, the 30-year-old seeded 10th.

The first second-round match of the tournament saw Sara Errani of Italy, the eighth seed, defeat Slovak qualifier Jana Cepelova 6-3, 6-2. Errani will take on either Li or Bouchard in the round of 16.

Bouchard has been on a roll this summer, taking two $10,000 ITF events in Bastad before heading to Wimbledon, where she became the first Canadian to win a grand slam event at any level with a victory over Elina Svitolina in the final. She also took the Wimbledon junior girls doubles title.

She followed with a win at a $25,000 tournament in Granby, Que., before reaching the third round of a WTA Tour stop in Washington last week.

Peer, who has dropped to 56th in the world this year, lost the first nine points of the match and struggled with her serve most of the match.

Bouchard shone in the final set, breaking serve to tie it 4-4, rebounding from 15-40 to hold her own.
