Alberni Valley Bulldogs tame Victoria Grizzlies

The Victoria Grizzlies’ offence has gone missing in action again.

The Victoria Grizzlies’ offence has gone missing in action again.

Having scored just two goals in their previous two games, the Grizzlies, with the return of veteran forward Eddie Yan after missing 17 games, sputtered again on offence, falling 5-0 to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Friday night at Weyerhaeuser Arena.

Victoria (16-29) has now lost six of their past seven games and return home today to face the Bulldogs (22-17-3) again at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre.

The Grizzlies didn’t even have to face Bulldogs No. 1 netminder Jackson Glassford on Friday as the veteran was ill. Backup Luke Pearons stepped in and made 31 saves for the shutout.

The game was close heading into the third with Tim Gould’s goal early in the second giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead, but Alberni exploded in the third for four unanswered goals. Mitch Deelstra, Jimmy Rayhill, Ryan Doolin and Josh Zary all scored in the final period.

Liam Souliere made his fifth straight start for Victoria and finished the night with 37 saves.
