University Canada West is a business-oriented educational institution located in downtown Vancouver, and a part of the expanding Global University Systems (GUS) network.
UCW joined GUS in October 2014. In the two years since the acquisition, the university has capitalized on its strengths, attracting talent from around the world and offering its students a springboard for success. The business acumen and professional guidance that GUS was able to offer have steered University Canada West through a period of revitalization.
The university now focuses on providing core programs which enable students to obtain highly sought-after qualifications and truly hit the ground running when the time comes for them to enter the workforce.
One of several programs UCW offers is the Master of Business Administration (MBA). Closely aligned to the needs of modern day businesses, the UCW MBA develops critical thinking and management skills, preparing students to become successful leaders in an increasingly competitive business environment.
Dr. Arthur Coren, President and Vice-Chancellor of University Canada West, took time out of his schedule to discuss the development the university has undergone in recent years.
“University Canada West has made a number of significant advancements since being acquired by GUS in 2014. The additional support we have received from management and their global reach has allowed us to truly focus on improving and expanding the university.”
“Student success is our number one priority here at UCW and the acquisition has really benefitted our students,” Dr. Coren added. “We are attracting bright and ambitious young people with a thirst for learning from around the globe. I’m happy to say that UCW continues to welcome the world.”
It’s clear that UCW prides itself on the close knit-community it offers its students. Quite the opposite of typical, sprawling university campuses, UCW’s headquarters remain modest; small class sizes fuel positive interactions between students and lecturers. The faculty seem incredibly accessible – there’s a real sense of community here that perhaps wouldn’t be present in many larger universities.
“The professors know every student by name and they pride themselves on the quality of their interactions,” Dr. Coren explained.
The university has an impressive 12 years’ experience in delivering online education. In today’s fast-paced learning environment, education is becoming more reliant on technology; students have come to expect access to online materials to support their classroom studies and this is an area where UCW shines.
The foundations laid down by UCW have been strengthened by GUS in the past 22 months but the university is committed to continuous improvement. It’ll be interesting to see what comes next for University Canada West and where future developments will lead them.
