Habitat for Humanity Victoria opens annual Gingerbread Showcase with an eye on the future

Habitat is inviting visitors to join them as they imagine The Future of Home

Habitat for Humanity Victoria’s premier fundraiser, The Gingerbread Showcase, in partnership with Build the Future Fund founding partner - The Victoria Real Estate Board is back for its 13th year with the return of in-person viewing.

Now open, Habitat has its eye firmly fixed on The Future of Home, as volunteer bakers compete to find out who will win the People’s Choice Award.

“We have some really inspirational entries this year for visitors to enjoy both online and in person,” says Kelly King, Director of Communications & Giving for Habitat for Humanity Victoria.

Habitat is working with four hosts for the 2021 fundraiser: The Parkside Hotel & Spa, The Chateau Victoria, The Marriott Inner Harbour and The Doubletree, to bring visitors this magical family holiday experience as a walking tour in the heart of downtown Victoria.

“We are thrilled to again be a part of the Gingerbread Showcase with our hotel neighbours in downtown Victoria,” says Parkside Hotel & Spa General Manager Trina White. “We’re looking forward to seeing everyone participate in the walking tour as we all help support Habitat for Humanity Victoria’s build program.”

The Showcase is, as always, free to enter, but visitors are encouraged to donate when they vote for their favourite entries. New features added to this year’s experience include contactless tap to vote and donate options. In addition, online opportunities to view, vote and donate for the People's Choice Award will also be available.

This year, Habitat is inviting visitors to join them as they imagine The Future of Home. Gingerbread bakers will be looking to the future to consider how we might live, what our communities could look like and what adaptations we might make to create a brighter future for everyone. Be sure to come and see these visions for our homes, communities and the environment we share in this new future, full of exciting possibilities.

“The Victoria Real Estate Board is excited to be a part of Habitat for Humanity Victoria’s Gingerbread Showcase,” says David Langlois, President of the Victoria Real Estate Board. “This event is not only a must-see in the local festive calendar, it’s also an important avenue for Habitat to raise funds for their next project, so that they may continue their vital work developing affordable housing. As a realtor, I encourage the development of all types of housing to support our community – but I might add that the gingerbread house development that Habitat delivers each season is one of my very favourites.”

Volunteer ambassadors will also be returning to help visitors get the most out of their viewing experience. Habitat will be recognizing the support provided by these invaluable volunteer partners with the help of Volunteer Recognition Sponsor, Revera.

“Like Habitat, Revera believes in the importance of building strong communities. Revera is honoured to be participating in this year’s Gingerbread Showcase as the official Volunteer Sponsor,” says Thomas Wellner, President & CEO Revera Inc.
