Every voice has something to say. Across a community, when those voices come together great things can happen.  This year, the Victoria Foundation’s Vital Signs survey returns and looks for Greater Victorians to share their opinions on quality of life in the region.

The 2023 Vital Signs survey, presented by Coast Capital, is out now. The survey is open until June 2 and offers the chance for Greater Victoria residents to have their voice heard on 12 issue areas across the Capital Region. These issues include housing, safety, health & wellness, and the economy.

This year, participants can complete a short or long version of the survey. Results will then be used to help shape the 2023 Vital Signs Report, combining public opinion and statistics to provide a snapshot of livability and well-being in Greater Victoria.

While much is being done to address affordable housing in the region, it remains an issue of high importance for Greater Victorians. In the 2022 Vital Signs Survey, 64% of respondents said their availability of affordable rental accommodation to meet their needs was “poor.” 69% of survey respondents ranked housing as one of the most important issues in Greater Victoria. In the 2022 Vital Signs Report, the issue area of housing received the first ‘F’ grade in Victoria’s Vital Signs history.

Although there are many issues facing the community, Greater Victoria continues to be a sought-after destination on the West Coast. In last year's survey, respondents ranked the “Best Things About Greater Victoria” as the natural environment, the climate, parks and air quality.

This year, when you participate in the Vital Signs Survey, it's another chance to share your thoughts on what makes the capital region special. From the best things about Greater Victoria, to arts, education and quality of life, the Vital Signs Survey helps shape a full snapshot of life in the capital region.

The survey is also an opportunity to have your voice heard in helping shape a vibrant, caring community for all. In the 2022 survey, 60% of respondents shared that they strongly agree it’s important to foster, learn about and respect Indigenous culture, values and traditions. As well, 77% of respondents agreed that there should be more opportunities to support cross-cultural education and awareness.

Whether it’s sounding off on the big issues facing Greater Victoria, sharing what’s great about it, or pushing for a vibrant, caring community for all, your opinion matters. The 2023 Vital Signs Survey is out now and open until June 2. Completing the survey enters participants for a chance to win one of three $100 gift cards to Country Grocer.
