Saskatchewan cutting service, jobs at 19 environment field offices

REGINA — The Saskatchewan government is cutting jobs and service at 19 Ministry of Environment field offices in the province.

The offices are in Assiniboia, Big River, Buffalo Narrows, Estevan, Humboldt, Ile-a-la-Crosse, Kindersley, Leader, Lloydminster, Maple Creek, Moose Jaw, Outlook, Pinehouse, Preeceville, Shaunavon, Southend, Spiritwood, Wadena and Weyburn.

Eighteen part-time and full-time workers will lose their jobs.

Conservation officers will continue to work at the offices, but there won’t be any walk-in service for the public.

The government says people who need services such as buying hunting and fishing licenses can do it online.

Last year, more than 409,000 hunting and angling licences were sold in the province.

The government says the 19 offices affected by the change accounted for about two per cent of all provincial licence sales.
