Regina police constable faces assault charge after responding to call

REGINA — A 16-year veteran of the Regina Police Service has been charged with assaulting a woman while on a call.

On April 21, Const. Roger Wiebe, who is 50, responded to reports of a person needing help.

It is alleged that the woman was assaulted during that call.

Charges were laid following an investigation by the police service's Public Complaints Commission.

In addition to the criminal charge, Wiebe also faces what police call an internal process.

He is to make his first court appearance on the charge in provincial court on Aug. 11.

Wiebe has been reassigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the trial.
