Abstract Developments, which has been behind residential building projects in Victoria, Saanich and Oak Bay for the past 23 years, is stepping into Langford for the first time.

The company has acquired property along Sooke Road, between Happy Valley and Jacklin roads, where it plans to build a community of 64 three- and four-bedroom townhouses called Willow + Glen.

The 2.88-acre property contained an older single-family home that had been abandoned, said Tavish Rai, executive vice-president of Abstract.

The company will need rezoning for a higher-density project and a development permit through Langford council, and hopes to “be in the ground sometime in 2022,” said Rai.

Langford Mayor Stew Young welcomed the new developer.

“Langford council continues to work to bring various types of housing, including condos, townhomes and single-family homes, to our city to accommodate our growing population and the evolving needs of our residents,” said Young in a statement.

Abstract CEO Mike Miller said the West Shore is booming and the company wants to work with local governments to address the “housing supply crisis.”

Abstract is known for building higher-end condominiums and townhomes over the years. Some of the company’s recent projects include Bellewood Park on Fort Street, Black and White downtown and the Sparrow at Hillside and Cook. It’s also behind the Cadence condo project on upper Quadra Street in Saanich.
