Alex Cuba added to his ever-growing resume Tuesday with two Latin Grammy Award nominations for his latest album, Sublime.

The B.C. singer-guitarist, who lived in Victoria during a key period of his musical growth, will compete for best singer-songwriter in the 21st annual event, which will be held Nov. 19 in Miami, Florida.

John (Beetle) Bailey and Harry Hess, Cuba’s production team, added to Sublime’s list of accomplishments with a nomination for best engineered album, one of 53 categories in this year’s awards.

Cuba moved to Smithers, where he is currently based, in 2003. He landed in Victoria in 1999, with his twin brother, Adonis Puentes — who still lives in Victoria — from Artemisa, Cuba.

The duo’s Juno Award-nominated output helped kickstart the Latin music resurgence in Canada during the 2000s, and both have been fixtures of the Latin music community worldwide in the years since. The brothers have each earned Latin Grammy Award nominations in the past, with Alex Cuba netting a Grammy Award nomination for best Latin pop album in 2015.
