One of the great things about being the web editor is that my mistakes never last for long.
If someone points out a typo, I can just correct it and carry on with my life like nothing happened.* It's not like we're writing this stuff down in ink . . .
Likewise, we have a great opportunity online to expand on the limitations of our print product. Photos for instance.
Look at this great hockey shot from Times Colonist photographer Bruce Stotesbury.
It's a great hockey moment that you don't often see captured in still photography. Stotesbury's timing was impeccable and I think people should see this shot.
A different — almost as good — photo ran in the print edition and I'm sure there were good storytelling reasons for choosing that photo over this photo.
Here's that photo:
It's good. But now that you've seen the highsticking shot, aren't you glad you've seen them both?
The magic of the Internet!
We'll try to share more of these hidden gems in the future. Maybe we can even get the TC photographers to point out their favourites that aren't making it onto the page.
(And if you know whether the highsticking penalty was called, let me know.)
Remember, we also post regular photo galleries that showcase the talent of our staff photographers. Find them HERE.
