Our self-serve community events calendar got an overhaul this week, making it easier to find and a lot easier to use.

Our self-serve community events calendar got an overhaul this week, making it easier to find and a lot easier to use.

It's in the same spot — right-hand side of most news pages, down about two-thirds of the way — but has a new look and greater functionality.

This is what you're looking for:

New calendar

While you previously had to click on a link and hunt your way through a list of events, you can now quickly scan the day's events simply by hovering your mouse over a date.

This will biring up a box like this:

If you want more detail, just click on the event. Once on the full calendar page, you can sort by date or type of event. You can even export events to your own calendar. Most are supported.

If you are looking to add an event, you don't have to go any further that the calendar on the homepage.

Just click on "Add an event" and you're off to the races:

If you would just like a shortcut to the events page, here it is: http://www.timescolonist.com/events (You can also get here by clicking on "See all community events.")

Be aware, however, that you can only add an event as shown above. But don't worry, the calendar widget will be in the right column of this page as well.

The Go! Calendar

If you are looking for the popular Go! Calendar, you can now find a PDF download of the popular print feature on the Go! page.

We'll add it each Thursday afternoon. It's there now if you want to go check it out.
