Victoria police said officers in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue recognized the man, who was under house arrest and prohibited from being on the block.

A man was arrested Friday afternoon after fleeing from police on an electric scooter and crashing into a parked police car.

Victoria police said officers in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue recognized a man who they knew was under house arrest and bound by court-ordered conditions, including that he was prohibited from being on the block and from leaving his home for any reason other than work.

When officers told the man he was under arrest for violating those conditions, he got on a stand-up electric scooter and fled, VicPD said.

Officers followed the man and called for back-up. Police parked their vehicles in several places to try to catch the man, who then collided with a parked police car on Fort Street, police said.

The man tried to run, but was restrained by officers and taken into custody.

Officers searched the man and found he was carrying a knife, bear spray and a collapsible baton, despite having court-order conditions that prohibit him from possessing weapons.

He was held for court and will face recommended charges of breaching his conditions.

Anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken to police is asked to call VicPD at 250-995-7654, extension 1.
