Premier Christy Clark's announcement that former MLA Ben Stewart will be B.C.'s new Asia trade commissioner is just the latest in a series of jobs for former MLAs and supporters since the Liberals were re-elected on May 14.
Here's a running list of 15 appointments so far. If you know of any more, or have corrections, email me and I'll update the list.
- Ben Stewart, former Clark cabinet minister, named Asia trade commissioner, salary $150,000.
- John Les, former cabinet minister, named chairman B.C. Farm Industry Review Board, maximum per diem $60,000 annually.
- Gordon Wilson, former B.C. Liberal leader and Clark election supporter, named LNG Buy B.C. Advocate, salary $50,000 a year.
- Ida Chong, former cabinet minister, named to board of governors for the University of Victoria.
- Ken Kramer, failed Burnaby-Lougheed Liberal candidate, was named chairman of the Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board. He was reappointed for a three-year term, and had the job before the election.
- Sukhminder Virk, failed Surrey-Newton Liberal candidate, named to board of the Justice Institute of B.C.
- Steve Housser, failed Cowichan Valley Liberal candidate, awarded short-term government communciations contract worth $17,775.
- Christina Bates, failed Victoria-Swan Lake Liberal candidate, named ministerial chief of staff, with $66,150 salary.
- Nick Facey, failed North Island Liberal candidate, named ministerial chief of staff with $89,775 salary.
- Karen Bill, failed Victoria-Beacon Hill Liberal candidate, named ministerial chief of staff with $66,150 salary. Bill was an MA before the election, and returned to the job after her campaign.
- Rishi Sharma, failed Saanich South Liberal candidate, named ministerial chief of staff with $89,775 salary. Sharma was an MA before the election, and returned to the job after his campaign.
- Hector Bremner, failed New Westminster Liberal candidated, named ministerial assistant.
- Scott Harrison, failed Vancouver-West End Liberal candidate, named ministerial assistant. Harrison was an MA before the election, and returned to the job after his campaign.
- Fatima Siddiqui, failed Vancouver-Hastings Liberal candidate, named ministerial assistant.
- Gabby Kalaw, failed Vancouver-Kensington Liberal candidate, named ministerial assistant.
