In light of recent events in Victoria, it's clear that the common factor in two accidents in the picturesque tourist zone is tour buses. Maybe instead of banning horsedrawn carriages, we should be banning tour buses.

Re: "Taxis face crackdown over rush to pick up cruise-ship fares," Aug. 10. I agree with the crackdown, as I see taxis hungry for another fare.

Re: "Cycling upgrades in capital could cost $220 million," Aug. 12. For a hundred years, we have been giving huge public subsidies to the car industry in the form of asphalt roads, traffic lights and police to monitor traffic violations.

Even supporters of sewage treatment should be troubled by the latest developments on the megaproject.

Well, the Olympics are finally over. And not a moment too soon, some might say. One more airing of the I Believe theme tune, and we were all ready to scream.
