With schools opening across B.C. this week, there is much to celebrate and much to keep in perspective.

Re: "West Coast Trail boardwalks neglected," Aug. 30. My husband and I and four friends hiked the West Coast Trail a few weeks ago and can also attest to the appalling condition of the boardwalks on the trail.

In the past, I have been supportive of medical caregivers and other hospital workers on issues of working conditions and compensation.

Re: "Retired clerk's deal 'good value,'" Sept. 2.

Re: "University degrees are worth the cost," Aug. 30. The letter-writer claims that jobs for grads have grown substantially since 2008 whereas jobs for non-grads have declined.

Re: "Retired clerk's deal 'good value,' " Sept. 2. It is my understanding that legislature clerk Craig James has worked with the government for many years.

Re: "Seniors contribute greatly to Canadian society," Sept. 1. Hail to someone who understands what seniors give back to our communities. The vision of the upcoming "grey tsunami" can be viewed many ways.

British Columbia's MLAs are in the club. Retired legislature clerk George MacMinn is in the club, too. So, arguably, is the current clerk, Craig James.

Re: "Retired clerk's deal 'good value,'" Sept. 2. Remember Canadian senators who could pull in a full paycheque while living in Mexico for months on end and not showing up? It seems like our B.C.
