Tearing down apartments creates more problems

As a resident of the Christie Point rental complex in View Royal, I read the article with great interest. I agree that the capital region desperately needs more rental units. Realstar’s proposed redevelopment, however, is not the way to go.

In the information Realstar has given to residents, it states rental rates have not been set yet, as the article reports. However, it then goes on to say they “will likely be higher then the current rents.”

Christie Point provides reasonably priced rental housing for 161 families. Tearing down our complex and replacing it with more expensive apartments does not help solve the problem of a lack of rental units — it just creates 161 more problems.
