Shawnigan sampling should have gone deeper

Re: “MLA calls for more stringent tests at Shawnigan dump sites,” July 18.

With 40 years’ experience in environmental sampling and analysis, I cannot imagine why the Environment Ministry sampled only the top half-metre.

If there is any question of contamination, the only reasonable sampling scheme would be to collect core samples from the surface down to bedrock or other impervious layer.
