PTSD must be recognized and treated

Perhaps the public should be given the opportunity to hear the accounts of first responders who develop post-traumatic stress disorder. That way they will truly understand the need for immediate mental-health care for these people.

A relative who worked for the fire department had to retire early due to stress (probably undiagnosed PTSD). He told me about one horrific event that is probably the one that caused the damage. PTSD is a serious ailment and needs to be recognized as such by insurers and the government.
