Mayor not having a real ‘conversation’

Re: “City family panel expected outcry over removal,” Aug. 16.

Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps called her insular committee by the crony term “city family,” she ambushed councillors by not briefing them sufficiently in advance of the vote taken to remove the statue of Sir John A. Macdonald, she scheduled the removal crane and signs before council’s vote even took place, and then she asserts that we’re having a “conversation.”

A conversation is an exchange — of thoughts, facts and opinions. It involves listening, a skill she seems to lack.

What Helps does is talk at, not with, the people of Victoria. May she get a thunderous education in listening come October’s election results.
