May 15: Horses don’t use fossil fuels

Re: “Ban horse-drawn carriages by 2023, Coun. Ben Isitt says,” May 14. Objections to horse-drawn carriages appear to centre on supposed cruelty to draft animals and their inability to keep up to average traffic speeds, thus inconveniencing motorists.

Objections to horse-drawn carriages appear to centre on supposed cruelty to draft animals and their inability to keep up to average traffic speeds, thus inconveniencing motorists.

But at least horses use non-fossil carbon. I notice the inclusion in the photograph of what looks suspiciously like a couple of internal-combustion vehicles using fossil fuel.

Yes, ban horses except in parks, but not until we have decarbonized personal transportation.
