June 11: Can’t we all just be happy?

The article should have said: Making so many people so healthy. Riding your bike is as beneficial to your health as quitting smoking, not to mention it’s pretty enjoyable. And, fewer cars on the road is good for the air we all breathe.

Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps was inspired by Heidelberg’s downtown car-less core. I wish all community leaders could be so inspired. Putting people before cars is what European cities and towns have been doing since the 1960s when gridlock was keeping shoppers and tourists away. Cleaner air, less noise pollution and streets designed for everyone to safely stroll and cycle, sit out at a coffee shops makes for a carefree downtown experience. Now, that could make so many people very happy.
