Jobs protests are not surprising

A convoy has reached Ottawa calling for pipelines out of Alberta. Who can be surprised that the people who have been employed in the oil-and-gas industry would like those jobs to continue?

There is another issue before us that involves jobs. And that is the SNC-Lavalin scandal. There are many well-paying jobs in Quebec dependent on this engineering firm. Can we be surprised if the people who work there want the government to give priority to maintaining those jobs? If the firm collapses, can we expect a convoy of workers from Quebec?

If the need for jobs overrides concerns about greenhouse gases and climate change, why shouldn’t it also override concerns over the rule of law?
