As a local resident, I was deeply saddened to hear about the fatal collision that occurred at the intersection of Cook and View streets last week. However, I can’t say that I’m surprised.

This intersection is dangerous and desperately needs updates to improve safety. Vehicles on View have an extremely short window of time to cross or turn onto Cook. This makes it a very difficult intersection to get through, especially during rush-hour traffic.

Furthermore, as there is no designated pedestrian crossing, the intersection also poses a risk to pedestrians tempted to cross Cook.

As local traffic increases with the completion of several new residential buildings on View and Cook, the city must install traffic lights at this intersection before another tragedy occurs.
