Heart attack is No. 1 killer of women

Re: “Anatomy of a heart attack,” column, Feb. 14. Thank you for highlighting heart disease in Heart Month. It is vital to get this message out. Too many people, like the series’ author, are unaware of the risks, dangers and symptoms of heart disease.

Thank you for highlighting heart disease in Heart Month. It is vital to get this message out. Too many people, like the series’ author, are unaware of the risks, dangers and symptoms of heart disease. Indeed, everyone’s experience is different.

Women’s symptoms, risks and outcomes are very different from men’s. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women worldwide, killing one in three women, more than all forms of cancer combined. An article highlighting the gender differences would go a long way to balancing this picture and providing much-needed awareness to women in particular and the population in general.
