Find an alternative to releasing balloons

The front page of the Times Colonist on Friday showed thoughtful people releasing balloons into the sky. Please, please don’t do this, regardless of your sincerity in honouring some event.

Those balloons inevitably burst and fall to earth, to be eaten by farm animals or end up in kelp beds along the shore, where they take decades to degrade. Veterinarians and sea kayakers see the end of this act and it’s not a happy one. There are many other ways to remember a life.
