Disabled people stranded in homes

I am sure there are many stories coming about the big snow of ’19, but this truly is ridiculous. I am disabled. I live in “seniors and disabled” housing. We have been trapped in our apartments for two days.

I am disabled. I live in “seniors and disabled” housing. We have been trapped in our apartments for two days. The building is owned and operated by the Capital Regional District. The caretaker hasn’t been seen for two days. I guess he can’t get in or out, either.

What about ambulances and fire trucks? They can’t get in or out of our parking lot — it’s full of snow.

I have a large service dog, and he can’t get out to relieve himself. I spent four hours shovelling a small distance so I could at least get him out. It’s a good thing my groceries are pretty stable; others are not so lucky.

I and others in the building have had to go without home care (it will be quite some laundry when they are able to come). It is dangerous to drive, and where would you drive to anyway?

Thank you, Saanich. I certainly realize that main arteries must be cleared first and secondary streets come later. Much later. How long can this last?
