April 13: Clearcutting to get back to nature

What sad irony.

What sad irony.

After months of first clearcutting a large stand of trees, including many arbutus, then blasting to smithereens the exposed rock and finally removing and placing the boulders, a business catering to those seeking wilderness has risen near the West Shore Parkway and Highway 14 in Langford.

Looking down on the highway, from a barren, rocky perch, sit excessively large trailers, fifth wheels and motorhomes for those who want to connect with nature. Perhaps now that Langford has embraced artificial turf instead of real grass, it could install a bit of green to brighten up what was once truly green.
