It is offensive to imply that the only “real veterans” are those who have been deployed.

From Merriam-Webster:

“Definition of veteran

1a: a former member of the armed forces.”

As any member of the military can attest, each and every member, deployed or otherwise, must complete their objectives to achieve the goals of the mission.

I come from a long line of armed forces members and served honourably during the Gulf War. All members and former members of the military deserve respect for serving their country, whether they were deployed or not.

Veterans Affairs does not distinguish between former service members who have and have not been deployed, and neither should veteran’s plates.
