The poke wars are heating up in Burnaby.

And we are the ones who will benefit. Two poke giants are set to do battle in Burnaby’s biggest mall, Metropolis at Metrotown.

First, there’s Hula Poke, which has just opened for business at Metropolis at the entrance of the food court.

Next, there’s Steve’s Poke Bar, which has a giant wall sign saying “coming soon” set up at the east end of Metropolis.

Hula has more than a dozen locations across Western Canada, but this is its first foray into Burnaby. The design of the new shop is amazing. Modern and chic with beautiful wood.

You can pick from a variety of proteins, from salmon to tuna to sweet potato to tofu. Then you can pick a rice or go for a kelp noodle. Then you add your veggies and sauces and herbs and more.

Steve’s Poke Bar is more established in Burnaby. There are now seven locations that have reopened for the company after having to close due to COVID-19.

The City of Lougheed location has reopened and the company’s website says locations will open this summer at Metropolis as well as the Amazing Brentwood. Steve’s Poke is looking to dominate the mall food court scene, but Hula will definitely offer stiff completion.

Like I said, we all benefit from having more poke options.
