A wrecked sailboat that washed ashore near Oak Bay Marina in mid-February is finally being removed. Adam Coolidge and three of his team members at Cold Water Divers, based in North Saanich, spent Monday working to get the boat floating to take it off the beach.

Coolidge’s team were planning to wait for a break in the wind this morning to transfer the boat by crane onto a waiting barge. Coolidge said the port side of the vessel is severely damaged and no longer floats. “In our eyes, it’s a complete writeoff.”

The boat’s owner, Doug Prentice, has been unable to move the six-tonne vessel himself. Coolidge’s team strapped lift bags filled with air to the boat in order to get it afloat.
