Woman hit in Nanaimo crosswalk airlifted to Victoria hospital

A 24-year-old woman is in hospital in Victoria after she was hit by a vehicle in a crosswalk in Nanaimo on Monday night. Nanaimo RCMP said the woman suffered life-threatening injuries when she was struck at 8:40 p.m.

A 24-year-old woman is in hospital in Victoria after she was hit by a vehicle in a crosswalk in Nanaimo on Monday night.

Nanaimo RCMP said the woman suffered life-threatening injuries when she was struck at 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of Albion Street and Bruce Avenue and was airlifted to hospital.

The 31-year-old woman who was driving remained at the scene and is co-operating with police. Her car has been seized for a mechanical inspection.

RCMP said the crosswalk is not lit and at the time of the collision, it was raining, roads were slick and there was glare on the road.

The injured woman was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing.
