A 23-year-old woman is in critical condition after her car crashed into the median on Highway 19 near Lantzville Saturday afternoon.
“It appears that either a tire blew or she had some mechanical failure on her car that caused her to swerve and hit the median and flip into the ditch,” Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said Sunday.
The crash took place around 5 p.m. in the 8100-block of the Trans Canada Highway.
The woman was the only person in the car at the time of the crash. She was airlifted to hospital in Victoria.
Southbound lanes of Highway 19 were closed for several hours, said O’Brien.
