Woman cleared in disappearance of cat, but pet still missing

Victoria police say a woman seen in a surveillance video is no longer a suspect in the theft of a cat from a Vancouver Street home.

Victoria police say a woman seen in a surveillance video is no longer a suspect in the theft of a cat from a Vancouver Street home.

Police received a report April 30 that Penelope the cat had been stolen, and were provided with video that showed a woman with a similar-looking black cat.

Officers have since identified the woman seen in the video, taken with equipment in the Victoria HarbourCats office, and have discovered she had nothing to with the disappearance of Penelope.

She was taking her own cat to a vet in the area when she was captured on video, police said.

Penelope, a four-year-old black cat with a small white patch on her stomach and a purple collar with reflective tape, is well known for sitting on the fence beside the HarbourCats office door. VicPD said she is believed to be missing and not the target of a theft.
