A 37-year-old woman faces multiple charges following a series of incidents in Nanaimo Saturday in which she allegedly assaulted another driver and nearly struck a pedestrian.

Nanaimo RCMP said a man called 911 about 5 p.m. to say that he and his wife were driving on the Nanaimo Parkway when another car stopped in front of them in the slow lane. The man told police that a woman got out of the driver’s side, walked back to the couple’s vehicle and, after a short conversation, began hitting the man’s wife, who was driving.

Police say the 66-year-0ld woman suffered cuts and bruises to her head and hands as she tried to protect herself.

The suspect then returned to her vehicle and drove way.

A short time later, police say they received another report that a vehicle matching the description from the earlier incident was spotted driving into oncoming traffic and then onto a curb, nearly striking a pedestrian., before driving away with three flat tires.

Later, police received more calls from people reporting a woman behaving erratically on the public beach at Westwood Lake. Officers located a woman sitting in the lifeguard tower. They tried to speak with her, but she allegedly sprayed them with an unknown liquid that she claimed was harmful to them. The officers suffered no ill effects and police say the fluid was likely water.
