London Drugs says a technological glitch is behind recent reports of a flu-shot scam.
West Shore RCMP said they got a report from someone who received an email about booking a flu shot at the London Drugs in Colwood.
The person made two appointment at $50 each, but was told at the store that the bookings were a fraud, and that other customers had been victimized, as well.
London Drug said three people went to the Colwood London Drugs on Monday for flu shots they had booked online, only to find the pharmacy had no record of the appointments.
However, a review showed "zero fraudulence," the company said in a statement. "It turns out our online booking technology partner mis-directed these patients to online book their appointments at a doctor’s office that the technology company is also partnered with in Ontario."
The affected people have been notified of the technical error and had their $50 fees refunded, the company said, adding that they will receive their flu vaccinations at London Drugs in Colwood this week.
West Shore RCMP Const. Nancy Saggar said the department was glad to hear this incident was not a fraud. "However vaccination frauds do exist and have been reported to police in the past." She suggested checking with your health care provider and health benefits to determine your coverage and where you can go to receive a vaccination.
