West Shore RCMP are investigating a reported indecent act at an elementary school in which a man exposed himself to two young girls.

Police said around 3:15 p.m. on Monday, shortly after school let out at View Royal Elementary School, a man entered the school grounds and exposed himself to two girls, ages five and 11.

They ran away and reported the incident to a staff member.

Police were unable to locate anyone matching the girls’ description of the man after a comprehensive search of the area that included police dogs.

The man is described as white, with short, dark hair, clean shaven and wearing blue jeans. He appeared to be 30 to 40 years old and might have been wearing a two-tone jacket with black in the middle of the jacket.

“This is the kind of incident that garners a visceral response from both the public and the officers responding to the call,” said Const. Meighan Massey, spokesperson for the West Shore RCMP. “We are conducting a thorough and methodical investigation into the incident. Kudos to the two girls who kept their wits about them, got themselves to the school monitor and reported right away.”

Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident or who lives in the area to check home and vehicle surveillance equipment for images of a man matching the description.

Anyone with information asked to call West Shore RCMP at 250-754-2264 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 250-475-4260.
