A West Shore RCMP dog was instrumental in two drug investigations this week.

On Wednesday, the department’s crime-reduction unit and bike team raided a home in the 2300 block of Sooke Road in Colwood after a month-long drug-trafficking investigation.

A canine team, including police dog Erik, assisted in the search, which turned up cash, drug paraphernalia and what is believed to be cocaine. A stolen trailer was also seized.

A 37-year-old Colwood man was arrested at the home and later released on a promise to appear in court.

In another case, Erik helped identify drugs that were found in a container near Humpback Road in Langford.

On Monday, a man walking his dog called police about a container he spotted on the ground. When officers arrived, Erik indicated the white substance was illicit drugs, later determined to be 41grams of crack cocaine.

Anyone with information about either investigation is asked to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
