Saturday has a full schedule of charitable events for worthy causes, including Spin4Kids from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at GoodLife Fitness in the Bay Centre.

More than 200 GoodLife Fitness locations across Canada will be hosting Spin4Kids events, in which people get together to ride spin bikes. Local Olympians Silken Laumann and Adam Kreek will join David Patchell-Evans, founder and chief executive of GoodLife Fitness, for an exercise class at 1 p.m.

Spin4Kids is a fundraiser for the GoodLife Kids Foundation, which provides programs that give children opportunities for physical activity.

Anyone wishing to participate is asked to pre-register at spin4kids.com. Donations can be made on the website, as well.

Hockey for Hospitals puts a special fundraising focus on Saturday’s 7:05 p.m. Western Hockey League game between the Victoria Royals and the Vancouver Giants at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre. The goal is to raise $27,000 to buy three electric stretchers, which can weigh patients to help gauge medication needs in critical situations.

Money is raised through activities such as a 50/50 draw and raffle. As well, a portion of the ticket price goes to Hockey for Hospitals when ticket buyers use the promo code “stretchers” online at selectyourtickets.com/promo.

Last year’s Hockey for Hospitals raised $24,000.

A community group raising money to bring a Syrian refugee family to Esquimalt is holding a sold-out fundraising dinner at Esquimalt United Church’s Wheeley Hall at 6 p.m. About 130 diners are expected, including Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke NDP MP Randall Garrison.

The group has raised more than $30,000 and is looking to raise another $15,000 to fulfil its commitment to supporting the refugee family for a year.
