Car shears off power pole in Victoria, driver taken to hospital

One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries early Monday after a vehicle sheared off a power pole. Victoria police were called about 2 a.m. and arrived to find the vehicle on it side and the pole supported by only wires.

One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries early Monday after a vehicle sheared off a power pole.

Victoria police were called about 2 a.m. and arrived to find the vehicle on it side and the pole supported by only wires.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was taken to hospital by B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics.

The 1900 block of Fernwood, near Gladstone Avenue, was closed while the Victoria Fire Department and B.C. Hydro ensured the scene was safe.

Officers are trying to determine whether speed or impairment were factors.
