Victoria police arrested a man with a history of sexual offences after two young women reported being followed and harassed in the Quadra Village area.

Police said they were called to a convenience store in the 2600-block of Quadra Street on Saturday afternoon after the young women went inside the store and told staff they were being followed by a man on a bicycle.

A staff member locked the door to the store, but the man attempted to open the locked door to speak with the women, police said.

The young women told officers the man followed them for several blocks and asked them to go somewhere with him. Despite the women asking him to leave them alone, the man continued to follow them.

Officers located a suspect nearby who is known to police, with a history of convictions for sexual offences, including indecent acts.

The man is facing recommended charges of criminal harassment, obstructing a peace officer and assault.

Anyone with information about the incident who has not spoken with investigators is asked to call VicPD at 250-995-7654, extension 1. To report anonymously, call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
