Victoria police arrest convicted killer, robber after receiving tips from public

A tip from the public led to the arrests Wednesday morning of two men wanted on Canada-wide warrants after they did not return to the community residential facility where they were staying in Victoria.

A tip from the public led to the arrests Wednesday morning of two men wanted on Canada-wide warrants after they did not return to the community residential facility where they were staying in Victoria.

Victoria police said Jonathon Muzychka and Dean Reber did not return to a community correction facility Tuesday morning.

Police said they received a tip from the public and arrested the men without incident near Vancouver Street and Pandora Avenue at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Muzychka, 43, is a federal offender serving a 17-year sentence for a offences including manslaughter, escaping lawful custody, breaking and entering, theft under $5,000 and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, police said. His parole has been suspended since he failed to return to the residential facility.

Reber, 60, is a federal offender serving more than four years for multiple robbery convictions. His supervised statutory release has also been suspended.
