A Victoria man is half a million dollars richer thanks to a winning Lotto ticket and says he’ll celebrate with a weekend in Vancouver and a Canucks game.

Richard Pepper won $502,000 on Dec. 21. His Lotto Max ticket had six out of seven numbers plus the bonus number.

“It was unbelievable. I just sat there, staring at the screen,” Pepper said in a press release from the B.C. Lottery Corporation.

Pepper checked the numbers on his computer and then called his wife, who ran out the door and to the nearest lottery kiosk to confirm their good fortune.

Pepper said he and his wife will treat themselves to some rest and relaxation in Vancouver, including a Canucks game and a nice dinner.

“In the future I plan to invest a little and I’d also like to help out my family,” added Pepper. “The best thing is, this will allow me to retire without selling my house, and that takes a lot of stress out. I still don’t believe it.”
